CAMBIO

Changing our Attitudes and Mindsets by Believing and Investing in Ourselves

You don't need to have it figured out. You just need to start.

CAMBIO means change. It's a six-movement framework for young Latino men and the educators and counselors who walk with them, built from one man's lived experience and years of working with students.

Six peldaños, one climb

The Six Movements

Like the steps of a pyramid, you climb them in order. Each one is built on the last, and each level gives you a new view.

1
Attitude

Your Story

Look honestly at your roots, your obstacles, and the people and moments that shaped you. Your story is not your sentence. It's your starting line.

2
Mindset

Your Stand

A value is what you do under pressure. Examine the "valrules" you inherited, keep the ones you believe in, and finish with one sentence: I am ___, and I stand for ___.

3
Change

Your Mission

What you're good at, what makes you feel alive, and what you care about. Where those three overlap is where your mission lives.

4
Believing

Your Reminder

Motivation fades. Belief carries you. Build affirmations from things you've already proven about yourself. It starts with three words: I am enough.

5
Investing

Your Gift

Treat yourself as a portfolio. Name what you want to grow, invest in it consistently, and be honest about what you have to give up to get there.

6
Ourselves

Your World

Take an honest inventory of who builds you up and who pulls you back. Finalize your mission, then turn around and be CAMBIO for someone else.

Each movement has a matching worksheet in the companion workbook.

Nice to meet you

I'm Dr. Alfred Ramirez

I'm the youngest son of Mexican immigrant parents, raised in Echo Park, a wannabe gangster too smart or too scared to go all the way in. I dropped out of college twice. I filed for bankruptcy. I slept in my car for a week.

Then I went back. I earned every one of my degrees after I turned 40, including a doctorate in Educational Leadership, and built the program that became CAMBIO.

"Trabaja con tu cabeza, no tus manos."Work with your head, not your hands. My father, who worked thirty years con pico y pala for the Southern Pacific Railroad.

I wrote CAMBIO for the kid I used to be, and for every young man who was told, in some way, that he wasn't enough. He was. He is.

Let's Talk

Bring CAMBIO to your school, college, or community organization. I read every message myself.

To help me respond with something useful, tell me your school or organization, who your students are (age and group size), what you have in mind (one workshop, a series, or books for a group), and your timing.
